Light painting
To draw with light, all you need to do is slow down the shutter speed and in your camera. This allows you to draw something with a light and make it see like everything else is perfectly still. You may be thinking " Wont the person in the picture be blurred?!". No, the flash is flashed at the start so the weak light from the torches doesn't show the person drawing.

Mr Picasso discovered he could paint with light,he word photography translates as drawing (or writing) with light:
photo = from the Greek phos meaning light graph = from the Greek graphe meaning writing. This is truly photography. Other photographers also used his technique: Man Ray, Frank Gilbreth and Gjon Mili ; although they liked to experiment with the technique. For example, having more then one flash. Or using it in every day circumstances. Some played with coloured lights and a very long shutter speed. |
What We DidWe placed our DLSR camera on a tripod to make sure there were no blurs at all. We then set the shutter speed between 15 and 20 seconds, and we also messed around with the ISO settings. Also we changed what we did in the picture: wrote words and drew pictures without us in the frame, made shapes and lines coming of us and using the flash at different points to capture different poses. Below is the best one, look at the large version. Being our first time doing this, most of the lighting is wrong and the ideas are kind of bland. But some came out well with good lighting.
All I did to edit the picture below was turn down the exposure and contrast, and turn up the saturation (to bring out the colour). I also added a slight tint to make the colours seem sharper. |
