Man Ray also created photograms but called them: rayograms because he was a bit full of himself and decided this was a better name.
The main chemicals used are: breaker this causes the silver iodide of the paper emulsion to darken like lights being shone on it. And fixer this removes the undeveloped silver iodide from the emulsion. Finally the stop bath, this completely ends the development process. |
PhotogramsPhotograms are a photographic process where you( much like a cyanotype) place objects on light sensitive paper and shine a U.V light on them for 10 seconds. You then place the paper in developer for 1 minuet and then in stopper for a few seconds. finally leave in for 5 minuets, then soak of chemicals and leave to dry; you will be left with what looks like a black cyanotype. The rule of cyanotypes still apply with photograms, a solid object will appear white and translucent objects come across as slightly darker shapes.

I tried making my own photograms witch ended up like this.
photogram 1Although a bit boring, the two rings at the top give a cool shape to the picture. And even though you can see what most of the shapes are, there is a large empty space near the centre. Plus only the bright white shows, theres no grey shades to contradict the white and black.

photogram 2This one is much better then my first due to the grey shades as well as the white and black, and even though you can't tell what the objects are the sense of mystery makes the image more interesting than the first.

Some improvements for both would be:
-use objects that mean more/ more personal to me
-use my hand or face as a outline
